What Height Should I Hang a Picture?

Today I am going to keep things simple.
One of the questions I get asked the most is “What height should I hang a picture?”
This is also one of the first things I notice when working with design clients, hanging pictures too high is common.
Obviously it is not an exact science, but I like typcially tell my clients to hang the center of their pictures between 56″- 58″ off the floor, regardless of the ceiling height.
If you have a single row of pictures, simply center the picture 56″- 58″ off the floor.
If you are working with a grouping, hang the center of the grouping 56″ – 58″ off the floor.
And you can even get away with hanging pictures all the way to the ceiling as long as they are eveloped in a gallery wall.

If you happen to have your pictures hung to high, the good news is…it is an easy fix!
I know we have talked about how to hang curtains before, but I always get a lot questions regarding the exact placement of the rod. I think I’ll tackle that next.
Do you have any design questions you would like answered?

Products I Have My Eye On…

Lately I cannot get enough of gray, white, and gold. Add in a few pops of color and I would call it pretty much perfect.

I have had my eye on a few products that I can’t resist sharing.
Have you seen Z Gallerie’s York Collection? I can’t wait to use this dresser in a design.
How great is the greek key trim?
I simply adore this new Pillar Table Lamp from West Elm.
Marble and gold…yum.

I shared a few new items from Target’s new products last week, but I can’t leave out this adorable side table.

This Modern Wingback is too good.
It is definitely on my wish list for our next apartment.

These lucite letters from C Wonder are almost all sold out, but you just might get lucky and snag the letter you need!
I would love to get my hands on this Greek Key Handle Tray and Stand from C Wonder.
The faux bamboo gold legs are divine.

This mirror from Pier 1 Imports is simple yet classic.

I still have eyes for this Lexford Chest
I just love the nailhead detail.

Pretty sure this Gilt Trim Chest from Wisteria can do no wrong.
I mean really?

Anyone else loving this color scheme as well?

My Mom’s Home Tour Updated

As you know 3 years ago I shared my Mom’s home tour during Christmas time.
Last week I shared a few updated pictures on my Instagram feed and had lots of requests for an updated home tour.
My goal was to photograph the entire home, but it turns out I am not so good behind the camera. Also, trying to keep things photograph ready with 6 kids under 7 running around is almost impossible. So this mini tour will have to do. Plus, I have been meaning to show thier home without the Christmas decor, I just love how fresh and bright it is.
A little about the history of their home. My parents bought it about 9 years ago and have renovated it top to bottom. In the living room my mom added the beams (faux wood), upgraded to painted ceilings, designed the stone fireplace, and put plank solid wood floors throughout.
The paint color throughout the home is Restoration Hardware Silver Sage.

In the kitchen they started from scratch. New cabinets, appliances, lighting, countertops, and backsplash.

The dining chairs are from Home Decorators (no longer available) and the table is from Z Gallerie.

I did not have time to snap new pictures of the master bedroom, so I grabbed them from my original post.

Their master bathroom has to be one of my favorite places in their home.
Every time I visit I can’t help but take a hot bubble bath!

It can’t help but love visiting my parents home, I just adore it.
xo,

Finding the right sectional.

For the past week I have been in Calgary visiting with my family.
A few years ago I shared a mini tour of my parents home during Christmas, but this week I have also been sharing a few glimpses into their home on my Instagram feed
Their main family room is right off the kitchen. It is large, filled with natural light, and open to the rest of the home. Although they do spend a ton of time hanging out in this space, it isn’t totally comfortable.
Since my parents will be empty nesters in a few short months, they really want to transform this space to something a little more functional.  They would love to add a large comfortable (but semi-formal) looking sectional, a television, and a plush chair.
Selecting the right sectional can be so tough. I find many of them to be down right ugly, offered in less than desirable fabrics, or just plain uncomfortbale. Plus, when placing a sectional in an upstairs family room, it must have style.
So far my Mom is eyeing the Carlisle Sectional from Pottery Barn and I couldn’t agree more.
The rolled arms, down filled cushions and exposed legs add character, comfort, and style. Plus I think it will fit in perfectly with my mom’s traditional architecture and still give a slightly formal vibe.
I must admit, it isn’t very often that I come across a sectional that I like.
But when I do find one I love, I can’t get enough.

In my opinion, it’s hard to beat the function and comfort a sectional can provide. The tricky part is finding one that is stylish too.
Are you a sectional fan or not so much?
