Keeping it Real…

I am still playing catch-up from my one week vacation.
Last night, at 10:52 PM, I was working hard on E-designs when I realized I hadn’t begun my blog post for today!
So, I am taking the day off!
Here is a sneak peek of what my desktop looks like right now…
I have so many great projects that I can’t wait to share with you!
I just need to get them done 🙂

Textiles Thursday: Plain & Fancy Living

I am so excited to have Amy from Plain & Fancy Living here today.
I absolutely adore her design style and home.
She also happens to be extremely sweet and beautiful, what a combo!

Hi, Danielle Oakey readers! This is Amy from Plain & Fancy Living, I am so happy to be guest posting on Textile Thursday.  Thanks so much for having me.
The textiles I have in my home are mostly linen fabrics. I love the Imperial Trellis pattern by Schumacher, especially in a punchy shade like the citrine. I know some people think the pattern is too trendy, but I think it will be considered a classic in the future. Fingers crossed!
I have faux drapes framing out the windows in the breakfast nook and I also have a roman shade in the pantry. This fabric brings so much energy to the space. I love it against the Ben Moore Revere Pewter wall color.
I also love how the swirls in the DIY painting and curves of the light fixture play off of the movement in the pattern of the fabric. The contrast of color with the citrine and gray is just the combination I wanted.
My lemon prints from Wisteria are perfect with the feel of the space and the fabric.
I love to mix old with modern and I think the fabric is a perfect compliment to the reclaimed wood farm table.
The fabric was purchased through Urban Grace Interiors.  I painted the swirly picture and I purchased the lemon prints from Wisteria.  The table was purchased at a local store, chairs from Tar and the light is Aidan Gray, purchased at local consignment.
Thanks so much for having me guest post on your stylish blog Danielle!

Seriously? Do drapery get any better than that?
I am with Amy on this one, I think the Imperial Trellis print is timeless, I love it.
I definitely have drapery envy, anyone else?
Thanks Amy!

Gallery Walls

Although it may seem trendy, I still love gallery walls.
Especially this one in Victoria’s of sfgirlbybay home office.
Isn’t it clever how she incorporated her iMac as a piece of art?
Besides arranging the frames, one of the most intimidating parts of creating a successful gallery wall is selecting the right art.
When starting a gallery wall,  I typically like to find an inspiration piece to help direct me.
Here is how my process typically works…
1. Find an inspiration piece
This is my favorite print to date, and is the perfect inspiration piece to create a gallery wall from.
I love the ikat inspired pattern and the color scheme.
2. Select art by pulling colors from the inspiration piece

I immediately wanted to pull green from the inspiration piece.
This kelly green bike worked perfectly.
3. Include pieces that personally interest you

I have an odd obsession with row-homes.
They are charming and adorable, I dream of living in one.
This row-home illustration was just what I needed.
I also still have a thing for faux taxidermy and this gray one was just right.
Since pink is on my mind lately, I wouldn’t mind owning this monogramed chevron print.
I, of course, would select an O.

4. Let your wall tell a story

I love to include maps of places I have traveled or lived.
I love the graphic nature of this map. I would select Massachusetts, to remind me of our fantastic summer spent on the cape.

Inspiring or meaningful quotes are also the perfect addition to any gallery wall.
This one “time doesn’t wait” would be perfect above my work computer!
Here is a sample of what my gallery wall looks like so far.
It is not to scale, so a few adjustments would be necessary, but I like where it is heading.
Best part, all of these prints are very affordable and look great in inexpensive Ikea frames!
What is your favorite print?

Colorful Online Basement Design

I love when I get a client who isn’t afraid of color and pattern.
This client loves bright colors and graphic patterns.
I immediately turned to Trina Turk’s fantastic fabrics to spice up the space.
I love how playful and bold they are, perfect for a basement family room.
I paired the bold pillows with this amazing chair from Serena & Lily.
I found this vintage coffee table on my client’s local craigslist.
I love the color and shape.
I then selected this oversized wall clock to be placed above sectional.
Since the fabrics in the space are bold and graphic, it was important to keep the wall art simple.
A gallery wall would have been too busy for the space, but this large clock was perfect!
It is no secret that I love combining lots of color and pattern.
I could definitely see a space like this in my future home!
