salvage yard and guest post!

i can’t visit calgary without making a trip to the okotoks salvage center.
today i immediately fell in love with this headboard.
i didn’t measure it but i am guessing it is a double or maybe even a queen.
i bet you could get it for less than $10.00

i would slap some paint on that baby, wouldn’t it be gorgeous?
since i can’t take it home with me it is still sitting at the salvage yard.
someone please buy it!

I am obsessed with unique headboards.
they are the prefect statement piece for a bedroom.

i adore all the headboards above BUT i still think my salvage yard find has the best shape.
also, i am blogging over at dirksen dabbles today about how to create a successful art cluster!
make sure you head on over!
the author bethany is a fantastic artist.
i wouldn’t mind adding a few of her pieces to my collection 🙂

DIY kitchen transformation: the lettered cottage

last week my deer heads were featured on the lettered cottage as a favorite tutorial for 2010.
this was my first introduction to the lettered cottage and now i am obsessed.
the before and after section is a MUST see, don’t walk…run!
their kitchen transformation is incredible.
it makes me believe that all outdated cabinets are salvageable.
if you have an outdated kitchen, this is such a great solution!

here is the same kitchen before the makeover.
they kept the existing cabinets and countertops.
at first they painted the cabinets black but later painted the upper cabinets white and the base cabinets grey.
go here for step by step instructions on how they painted the cabinets
then they added MDF moulding and trim from home depot to the tops of the cabinets.
go here for a tutorial.
they finished the cabinets off with $10.00 corbels from home depot.
a little glue, one nail, and they were complete!
i just can’t get over how custom the finished kitchen looks.
and don’t you love the open upper cabinets?
they just removed the doors!
i think this is the best diy kitchen makeover i have ever seen.

a new year

last night we (my dad, mom, sister, and myself) ran the new years 5k resolution run.
it was such a great way to welcome the new year.

in 2010 i started this blog and my interior design business.
i can’t wait to see what 2011 brings!

to start the new year off right, i found the perfect pillow at tj max.

only $19.99!
i would love to design a whole room around this pillow, imagine the possibilities!
happy new year!
