Textiles Thursday: Hi Sugarplum

I am loving Textiles Thursdays.
What is better than peeking inside other bloggers’ homes?

I was SO happy when Cassie from Hi Sugarplum agreed to participate.
If you haven’t had a chance to spend time at Hi Sugarplum, you are missing out.
Cassie is full of style, spunk, and wit.
I wish I was half as funny as her
Hello, I’m Cassie from Hi Sugarplum! I’m thrilled to be taking part in Textile Thursday! I love the series, and am a big fan of Danielle.
I’m pretty new to the fabric scene, and before blogging, all I ever knew was Hobby Lobby! Now I’m familiar with many more fabric resources, but I still tend to stick with the inexpensive ones. Mostly because they fit my budget, but also so I don’t feel guilty when I want to change them out!
One place I love to put fabric, is in the backs of kitchen cabinets:

I loved this fabric so much I made a No-Sew Table Runner out of it! (Because even though I love fabric, this girl doesn’t sew! Hopefully someday.)

I recovered this hit-with-the-ugly-stick tray in a pink cross-section….and have plans to put the fabric in the back of the living room bookcases as well.

One of my favorite fabrics in the whole house is actually one I’d have never chosen on my own (it’s an inherited chair). I love the clean simplicity of the color, but the nubby texture gives it so much interest. And pretty much any throw pillow looks fabulous on it!

These pillows get the most comments from visitors in my house…they pack such a fun punch against the blue couch. And thanks to retailers like Target, we regular folk can afford high style like Dwell Studio!

(Expertly karate chopped by me!)

Most of the fabrics in my house right now are actually swatches. Little pieces I carry from room to room, while devising a plan. Here’s what I have and where I’m thinking of incorporating them:

My daughter’s new Big Girl Room will be getting some fun fabrics as well. Follow my progress at Hi Sugarplum!
Thanks for having me, Danielle!!
I think we are textile sisters.
I have several of the same fabrics floating around my home.
I am so excited to see her daughter’s bedroom complete, it is going to be amazing!
thanks again Cassie!

what’s emory wearing wednesday

we are back and full of attitude.
i have been drooling over the striped and dotted swimming suits at j.crew cuts.
i just can’t justify spending $50.00 on a swimming suit.
i was SO happy when i saw this one at target for $8.50.
i love the kelly green stripes and dots!
what are you looking at?
i couldn’t resist finishing it off with a pink rosette from forever 21
now warm up weather!
we are ready.

thrifty tuesdays: DIY skirted desk

yesterday i completed my DIY skirted desk!
i really feel like my office is starting to come together.
the skirt was simple but time consuming.
it took me about 4 hours.
supplies:

*3 yards of fabric (i decided not go to with the burlap)
*1 pkg of quilt binding (3 yards)
*velcro
*glue gun*
sewing machine
*iron
tutorial:

1. measure length and width of desk and cut fabric into 3 appropriate sizes.
2. iron fabric
3. sew hems on all 4 sides of each fabric piece
4. lay flat the front fabric piece
5. cut and lay-out quilt binding in desired design.
6. iron quilt binding pieces
7. place ironed quilt binding on front piece.
8. glue quilt binding to fabric.
i then adhered pieces of velcro to the desk and the fabric.
it seems to be holding perfectly and can easily be removed.
total cost: $14.00
$4.00 over budget, oops!
so here is my office $32.00 ago:
and after a couple coats of paint, DIY sunburst mirror, and a DIY skirted desk:
so much better!
i also hung a yellow mirror i wasn’t using behind the computer.
i am thinking of making it a cork board.
the next project on my list…
i still plan on keeping them as file storage but i need something with a little more style.
maybe stripes?
900 sq. ft at it’s finest, yes that is my front door 🙂
happy february!

skirted desk

i love always having a DIY project.
the latest focus is my office/entry.
i completed my $18.00 DIY sunbusrt mirror last week.
now onto my desk!
i have been obsessing over this skirted console table by palmer wiess for a while now.
i love the burlap and orange trimming.
isn’t it stunning?
i can’t believe i didn’t think of skirting my desk a long time ago.
here is my workspace, it’s a good start but it needs some tlc.
aren’t those shelves screaming for some love!?
we purchased the bookshelves and desk unit from ikea.
i like the contrast of the metal desk paired with traditional bookshelves but it looks a little blah, don’t you think?
a burlap skirt is just what the doctor ordered!
i found burlap at joann’s for $3.99/yard.
it comes in several colors but i am thinking of this milky beige.
i am going to attach the skirt with velcro so it can easily be removed.
i wonder what it is like to sit at a desk with a skirt? anyone?
the trim is definitely my favorite part.
joann’s sells a wide variety of quilt binding.
i think it will work perfectly.
i am going to use this peacock blue.
since i am having my faux bamboo chairs sprayed a similar color, i think they will compliment each other perfectly.
i have a couple coupons for joann’s that i plan on using.
my goal: $10.00
is it possible? i hope so!
