lamp shade dilemma

i must admit, my diy lampshade project is not going as well as planned.
i purchased the lamp shade for $2.00 at my local thrift store.
isn’t it pretty?

then i took the top layer accordion style fabric off.
super easy.

then i cut the old cover open and laid it flat to use as a template.
this is where things started to get complicated.

i originally planned on using a white fabric to cover the shade.
when i held the shade up with the white fabric you could see the yellow coming through, yuck!
back to the drawing board.
i need a fabric that isn’t as transparent, maybe something with more pattern?
i always go back to the chevron print.
apparently i am not alone.

i think it looks great!

i also like this chevron print pendant.

fabric.com has some great options for chevron fabric.

best part, $6.98/yard!

get blue here,

yellow here,

and black here.

i can’t decide if i want a chevron print lampshade or throw pillows.
cushions direct sells chevron print pillows for $18.95 each!
check them out here!

i really need to make up my mind.
what do you think?

elephant, giraffe, hippo, pig…

our nightime routine has changed a little.
it now goes:
elephant, monkey, duck, sheep, butterfly, giraffe, hippo, owl, pig…goodnight!

i love it when a diy project turns out just the way you want it to.
i think the animal plates are perfect and emory loves them too.

now if only we could figure out what noise a giraffe makes.
any suggestions?

string chandelier

a couple years ago we lived in cape cod for the summer.
ever since then i have been obsessed with nautical inspired interiors.
i adore this coastal-modern eat in kitchen.

the chandelier reminds me of a diy chandelier i saw earlier this year.
i think this project is amazing.

check out how to make your own string chandelier here.
this week i am focusing on finishing my projects for emory’s bedroom.
tomorrow i plan on getting my plates hung and lamp shades complete.
hopefully my 2 year old will corporate and let my projects go smoothly 🙂
