thrifty tuesdays: your trash, my gem

while browsing (or blog stalking) on an old friend’s blog i came across this inspirational diy project.

leah, the author of boy + girl, transformed this old secretary’s desk into a functional vanity/jewelry box.
she has a great eye for design and immediately knew this beauty had potential.
she snagged the desk from her local thrift store for $10.00.

a couple coats of paint and it was transformed, almost…

she also found this jewelry tray at her local thrift store for $1.00, what a steal.
it is the perfect solution for keeping her jewelry organized.

notice the lovely paper lining the drawers and table top?
she purchased it for $.10/sheet and simply mod podged it to the desk, stunning.

i love the subtle color and pattern to the paper.
it adds that extra special touch.

the charming anthropologie knobs complete the look.
total cost: $44.00
i would say this is a diy success!

what do you think?

Wow, that is an extremely cheap transformation. I’m pretty impressed. Painting furniture always worries me because every time I’ve tried it I think I used the wrong kind of paint and it ended up a little sticky. Hate that.

I just stumbled upon your blog for the first time and thought I would say hello. I have a blog about the art world, but studied and worked in the interior design industry, so I love to see what people are talking about.

I hope we get to see more of each other in the blogging community!
