Textiles Thursdays: Amber Interior Design

I am thrilled to have Amber from Amber Interior Design here today.
This girl is everywhere lately and I love her work.

Her dining room is jaw dropping…

and did you see the studio she recently designed?
Her use of patterns and textures is perfection.

Today Amber is taking us on a tour of some of the textiles she has around her home, lucky us!

Hi Y’all lovely Danielle Oakey Readers! It’s Amber from AID.  I was more than happy to guest post on this terrific Textile Thursday post because I am a self diagnosed textile addict! Well I am actually more like a textile junkie. If I had a quarter for every weird Uzbek, or Afghan parcel that turned up on my doorstep….I would be rich! Rich enough to be able to afford all this fabric I have hidden from the Duck {just kidding honey} ! I am going to show you some of my fave that I currently have strewn around my home!

I am taking you on a visual trip around the world using textiles as a guide. This particular textile is currently residing on the back of my couch in an effort to hide the cats attempt at making our sofa look antiqued! All of these tapestries are actually baby carriers imported from a dude who lives in the Andes Mountains….you know like the Peruvian mountain range that spans the length of Peru through Chile and Argentina. Wowza!

Lets make another stop on the world map of wacky foreign textiles…..the blue batik is actually from China.. It is a monk cloth from a village in Hmong. I had a loooong 12 yard roll of it so I had my upholsterer make it into pillows. The ikat patterned pillow behind it is from Uzbekistan and I paid a camel to swim across the ocean to bring it to me. HAHA…just kidding.

Last but not least some really cool blue Ikat fabric, that I am making into curtains for my office!

Hope my well traveled fabrics were inspiring enough for you lovers!
Thanks again Danielle for having me over…xoxo

Wow, these are incredible, I think I need to start shopping with her.
I can’t get over the vivid colors and intricate patterns, and I can’t wait to see her drapery finished.

Thanks for the inspiration Amber!

TRADhome Premiere Issue

I loved looking through the premiere issue of TRADhome
It is full of beautiful rooms and plenty of inspiration.
I absolutely fell in love with this home designed by Laura Gold and Sasha Adler.
It is a home that I could imagine myself living in.
It is perfect.

This home was designed for a family with 3 kids under 4.
Oversized furniture and durable case goods satisfy this families needs.

 I adore those barstools!

The simple lantern chandelier is stunning and I just can’t get over the carved wood captains chairs!

A gallery wall is so practical with a young family.
I wonder when I can move in…
What do you think?

Thrifty Tuesdays: DIY Upholstered Ottoman

Kat from Maple Leaves & Sycamore Trees sent me this fantastic DIY upholstered ottoman.
The finished product is incredible, it looks so professional.
Kat started with a wood console table.
Then she cut the legs to be the appropriate height for an ottoman.

She then spray painted the base black.

Next, she used spray glue to adhere the foam to the top of the table.
Then covered the foam with batting and stapled it to the bottom of the table.

She also cut and upholstered 4 pieces of plywood for the sides of the table.

She then screwed the side pieces to the table.

Once the side pieces were attached, she added a decorative nailhead trim.

And finally,  she tufted the top.

Doesn’t it look incredible?

I also love her choice of fabric.
Anyone inspired?
Go here for a detailed tutorial!
Thanks Kat!

Displaying Children’s Art

I love the concept of displaying children’s art in their rooms.
Simple and inexpensive frames can create a cohesive look and provide the perfect place to showcase your little one’s art.
I love this gallery wall.
This art cluster is so sweet.
The pictures can also be easily swapped out for new ones.

Even just paintings tacked to the wall look great if arranged properly.

Lately, Emory loves painting and coloring.
Yesterday we got our paint on.
I have 5 Ikea frames that need to be filled in Emory’s room.
I was originally going to fill them with portraits, but I have since changed my mind.

I think her darling art will do!
These ones are just practice, we are going to create our final ones on cardstock.
I also might help direct her on color selection…
How do you display your children’s art?
