How To Style A Nightstand…

One of the most challenging aspects of interior design is styling.
Selecting the furniture is fun, but making the the space feel “finished” isn’t always so easy.
I am currently working on a master bedroom for a client, and we are finally ready to style the nightstands.
I always search for inspiration before heading out to shop, and I thought it would be fun to share a few of my tips with you.
1. Make sure your lamp is big enough.
The lamp needs to be large enough to work with the scale and heaviness of the bed, but small enough that it doesn’t overwhelm the nightstand.
I recently wrote a post about lamp scale here, obviously I think it’s important!

2.  Layering gives depth.
Whether you hang a mirror or picture above the nightstand, or just lean one up against the wall, layering accessories gives depth and an overall finished feel to a vignette.

3. Incorporate books
Many people spend time reading before bed. Having a nightstand that is both decorative and functional for your nighttime routine is important. Simply stack two of your favorite books and place a decorative accessorie on top.

4. Flowers are a must.
Flowers give the perfect feminine touch and softness to a nightstand.
If you have a small nightstand, flowers paired with a lamp and small accessory may be all you need.

Hope you found this at least a little helpful!
Now I am off to shop!

Thrifty Tuesday: Anthropologie Chair Look-a-likes!

I love spending time on Anthropologie’s website gawking at the stunning chairs.
Oh how I wish I could afford to spend $1,600.00 on one chair, but let’s be honest, it’s not happening anytime soon.
My only option…find an affordable look-a-like!
Below are 4 chairs that I love.
Three of them are from Anthropologie, and the remaining one is from World Market.
The Anthropologie chairs cost around $1,600 each, and the World Market chair is only $299.
1.2.3.4
This vintage floral beauty is from World Market.
Regardless if you could tell or not, I think it’s a great Anthro look-a-like.
And you can’t beat the $299 price tag!

And just incase you are in the market for a cute little tufted number, I’ve also found these two adorable chairs.
One is from Anthropologie costing $1,700 and one is only $343 from Home Decorators.
Any guesses?
Ok, this one might have been a little more obvious, but I still think it is a great comparable!
Well done Home Decorators, I love this little tufted linen chair.
I love a good look-a-like, especially if it means saving some serious $$!

Sleep, Design, Wedding.

I’ve got 3 things consuming my life lately.
Sleep training, design work, and the planning of a wedding.
First, sleep training.
Theo turned 9 weeks today.
That means 9 weeks of waking up every hour or so. The poor little guy is not so good at sleeping. He suffers from reflux and has some serious gas issues, both of which aren’t helping the sleeping situation.
We have him on medications and probiotics, but I am really hoping he just grows out of it soon!
So my mommy friends, I would love to know when you started sleep training!
Once we get his stomach issues resolved I am ready to dive right in.
What age did you sleep train?
Second, I am finally back to working!
On Saturday I spent the morning helping a client style her bookshelves, we aren’t quite finished yet, but it sure felt good to be back at it.
I am finally accepting online design clients again,
I have a limited number of openings but E-mail me if interested!
Lastly, this May I get to be a bridesmaid in my high school friends wedding.
Her colors are mint, gold, and hints of pink.
I have been on the hunt for the perfect dress for weeks!
I so wish I could find this dress, but every time I find one similar, it is really short!

Any chance one of you would know where I could it?
Or do you know of someone local (Salt Lake City, UT) that could make it?
I woud love you forever!

The Perfect Play Dress!

One of my talented friends from design school just launched her fashion line, Sonnet James.
Whitney designs “play dresses for playful moms” and I am in love.
Her dresses are not only adorable, but are perfect for a busy mom.
They are feminine enough to make you feel pretty, and comfortable enough to wear all day.
The perfect combo if you ask me.

She is currently selling 12 adorable dresses.
These are a few of my favorites…

I highly recommend you head on over to Sonnet James and take a peek at her dresses.
I think you will love them, plus who doesn’t want to support a young mom pursing a dream?!
