In the last year or so I have really started to enjoy painting.
Now don’t get me wrong, I am NO artist.
I actually know nothing about proper painting techniques, materials, or anything art related.
After attempting many abstract pieces, I have come with a method that seems to work for me. So why not share a little tutorial right?
This piece is currently sitting in my master bedroom, but lets be honest, it might make its way to the living room.
This project is super easy and affordable! You should be able to purchase all supplies for under $10.00! I buy my paints from Walmart and Michaels (they are usually less than $1.00 a bottle), and I use seriously cheap brushes. Just call me classy.
Here we go!
Note: I used the flat side, not that glossy.
Oh and footmarks courtesy my kids 🙂
Easy right?
The painting will look a little flat when finished but throw that baby into a frame and it will come to life, I promise!
Hope you give it a whirl!
xo,

Very nice! I may have to try this. You’re right, it looks great framed. My hubby turned his nose up at hand painted art I have done before but maybe he’ll like this better.
Hah! My husband hates it when I paint too…I just might be a little messy.
I am definitely going to try this! These colors are my favorite and what a great price point. Thanks for sharing!!
Yay! I hope you share it with me if you do!
Ok, I know abstracts are harder than they look, but you made it look super easy! Styling perfection, too! Thanks for the tips!
Well I kept it super duper simple…I bet a real artist would be a little confused! Ha
That came out gorgeous! I don’t know that mine would come out as nice, but for $10, it’s definitely worth a try!
Oh you can do it! It is so so so easy!
Love this! I love painting, just how relaxing it is, but my pieces never turn out as beautifully as this one! Great tutorial!
Oh I doubt that. Everything you touch turns to gold.
Beautiful! I love the colors you chose.
Thank you so much!
It is gorgeous. Now I just need to pick up a piece of poster board!
I hope you do it…and of course I want to see!
Love it! Thanks for the tutorial. Whenever I’ve tried it, I always seem to go “overboard”…almost like I can’t leave well enough alone. This helps!

Yes me too! I kept this one super simple and it seems to work pretty well!
Fab! I’ve been scared to try an abstract but you just inspired me! Xoxo
Oh you have to try!
This is so so awesome, especially for the very amateur artist I am 🙂 I’m definitely trying this and PINNING!!
Thats me too! Very amateur! It’s good to have company 🙂
I love the colors! I made one of my “amateur” paintings with texture paint. It gave really nice layers to the painting 🙂
How cool! I should try that!
Very nice! I might try this! Thanks!
Do it!
I absolutely love this! I may need to do this for my husband’s office. He needs art, but I’m being cheap about it. These are perfect!
I’m cheap too! It borderline a problem. Ha!
This is fab. What size poster board and frame did you use?
Hmmm..just the standard size poster board and the largest white Ikea frame!

I found you through another blog which I found on pinterest. I love your stuff. Your style is a little more modern than mine. However, I feel like I learn a lot from looking at your work. Thank you for this post. I find it so tricky to find the exact colors I am looking for in art work and I have VERY specific taste. I think I might be able to replicate this with your tutorial. Thank you for showing the step by step! Seriously I love your blog I check it at least once a day!
Oh thank you so much!
love this and your blog! you are so talented and I appreciate how you design on a budget. my question is, how do you manage to do art and DIY etc with kiddies around?
Well nap time and night is best,l but to be honest, it’s usually just total craziness! I had to do this in the light to get the pics and my 6 year old took the liberty to create a masterpiece…it was special. In the end its just a mess and I got to paint so I still think it’s worth it!
Very pretty! I love all the colors your used 🙂
Nice Blog , This is what I excatly Looking for , Keep sharing more blog .

Hi Danielle, I just found your blog. Loved this tutorial. Surely will try this painting.
Love this so much…could you tell me any other color combos that would work? I’d love to try it with pinks… Thanks, this is the best diy I’ve seen in a long time. Looks so good.
Thank you! Yes, pinks would be great too. I don’t know the exact colors to use but find a dark, middle, and light color and go for it!
