Ok, this post is not going to knock-your-socks-off but it is a very exciting change in the Oakey home.
Since our move is just over a month away, we have started to sell our furniture.
Last weekend we said goodbye to my kitchen table, which left me with an empty dining nook.
To date, we have never had “playroom”.
Only a few minutes after our table left I couldn’t help but whip up a make-shift playroom.
Having the kids toys so accessible and on the main floor has been amazing.
They have gotten so much use out of this space already.
I do miss having a kitchen table, but I am starting to think the sacrifice might be worth it.
Our next apartment will have an eating bar on the island, which makes me wonder if we could live without a table permanently.
The extra living space is wonderful and Ikea does have several folding table/chair options.
I think we just might just give it a try.
What do you think? Could you live without a table?
Also, have I shared my newest DIY art pieces with you?
I honestly can’t remember!
I painted over my last DIY art piece and I like how it turned out.
I think the bold colors are more me.
xo,

We have a weird shaped apartment that has lots of room but oddly not a spot for a table so we always eat at our kitchen bar area. I do wish we had a table for when we have guests/family over but its not too bad to eat at the bar since its just the two of us. Perhaps you could do a drop leaf table so you have the option of a table when you want it but can keep it small when the kiddos want to play 🙂
Love the drop leaf table idea! I am also considering hanging folding chairs on the wall, I’ve seen this done before and I think it could work well for us.
I could definitely live without a table. We bought a beautiful set from Crate & Barrel and only use it when guests come over! Sad, but true
Ha! We do use ours everyday with the kids, but I am wondering if the bar could replace that? I’ll have to figure something out.
I wish we had a formal dining room for this very reason, because our playroom is in our basement & I wish we had a little more space on our main level for it. We use our table everyday but it’s an eat in kitchen & there’s 6 of us. So I couldn’t forgo the table, but sounds like that may be a very good option in your next place. Then get a good one when you can settle into your more permanent digs in the future.
Yes, we do need a table but I am considering re-thinking the idea of a traditional table. My husband is NEVER home in time to eat with us and the little guy is in a highchair still. Would I hate just using the bar and having a folding table on hand for when we do want to eat together? Ah, so many decisions!
I love this! And that painting is to die for!
Oh thank you!!
That painting looks great, the colors are so pretty! We don’t have a playroom in our house, but I would love to have one! I think it would definitely get a lot of use. Maybe I’ll get rid of my kitchen table 🙂
Ha! Try is out, why not right? Although I am finding it a little tricky. We definitely need somewhere to eat so this temporary situation wouldn’t last. But with the eating bar….maybe I can make it work?
That painting came out great! That’s exactly the look I was going for with my last abstract attempt … Let’s just say yours came out a lot better. 😉
Oh I bet yours is great! I would love to see it!
So cute–I love the painting! We don’t have a playroom either–maybe one day!
Dream big right? Playrooms are often in my dreams. Ha!
Danielle- your art is amazing!! Bravo!! We have a playroom, best space ever!!! Yours is darling!
Oh thank you! I have no idea what I am doing in regards to art, but I love to just wing it.
Look at you just throwing together a stylish playroom in no time! And your art!!? I love it! You’re so talented.
You are too nice! It isn’t fancy but we are all sure enjoying it!
