Now I know this is old news, but there is no better (or affordable) way to create this look than using the VITTSJO shelving unit from IKEA. They only cost $70.00 and paint up real nicely.
Although I am pretty convinced mine will be painted yellow, I wanted to share with you a round-up of my favorite VITTSJO shelf hacks!
I love how this whole room is styled, but especially those pretty IKEA Shelves!
Rachel from The Pencil Shavings pretty much killed it with her IKEA shelf hack.
The gold spray painted metal paired with the blue campaign dresser…so perfect!
(I also recommend checking out her home tour here…the before and afters are impressive)
Speaking of gold and blue, have you seen Emily from Name 5 Things formal living room tour?
Don’t walk, run.
I also spy some yummy Ikea shelves painted gold!
Clearly gold is the color of choice for this hack, but look how good it is in this room!
Lastly, Samaa from Honey Sweet Home is making me drool with her gold leafing action.
So pretty.
So who is ready to run out and buy one of these bad boys?
I know I am.
xo,

One of my all time favorite Ikea pieces! I hope they never discontinue them!!
They better not, especially before I find a place to put one!
IKEA’s Vittsjo shelving is just so simple and so perfect for many interiors. In the summer, I added a narrow unit to fit the wall space just inside my front door. I love a bright pop of color and it’s paining me not to paint it, but keeping it black is probably best for my room currently, especially since I’m hoping to paint my walls a deep blue soon. Speaking of blue, I recently featured a different look for the Vittjo shelves on my blog, done by Caitlin of Desert Domicile. She went with blue, which is just perfect for her space.

Sometimes I have to repeat to myself…back away from the paint! HA! I love hoe hers turned out…amaizng!
Eek! Thanks so much for including my shelves!!

Of course. They look amazing and so does you whole house. Hello talent.
I adore them and would love to have them in my house too. Caitlin from Desert Domicile did a beautiful version in blue in her office too:

great post! thanks for sharing that one 🙂
Oh these are awesome!
So crazy. I just came across Emily’s last night. I LOVE IT. I so want one but don’t know where to put it!! Come figure it out for me;)
We even search the internet for the same thing? That is hilarious! I don’t have anywhere for one either, boo.
Yes! I did it too – on one small unit, but plan on getting a second one very soon 🙂

Looks awesome! Thanks so much for sharing!!!
Omg I so need to do this in gold!!! How have I never noticed these shelves at IKEA?
I’m having a major “spray paint everything gold” moment right now! I’m with Courtney though….where oh where do I put them!?
I know, they are just awesome! I currently don’t have anywhere for these bad boys…but hopefully I will!
Meeeeee! I need one! Although I’m quite sure HDawg would easily find a way to get that thing toppled over in 20 seconds, flat. But all baby safety issues aside, I need. Think I could make it work in a dining room?
I’ve thought about the baby problem. Pretty sure my guy would be all over these too. I wonder if they anchor to the wall? Many of the pieces from Ikea do…
Thanks for featuring my living room, Danielle! So fun to see it pop up on your blog!
I have a pair of these, one I sprayed gold & sits in my upper hall styled with books & family photos & the other is in my master bath is painted a shade of grey that holds folded towels & crystal jars & decanters that have bubble bath & salts.
Kate from Centsational Girl did it in white with wood shelves! http://www.centsationalgirl.com/2012/07/ikea-shelving-modified/
My heart hurts for you having to sell your sideboard. You can find those anywhere anymore!
And I also have the soft spot for yellow…can’t stop! 🙂
AHH this is the PERFECT piece for my dining room!! I am loving all these hacks!!!
