I know I am the worlds worst blogger lately, and to be honest, it hurts my soul.
I love this blog, I love my readers, and I love having this small space on the internet to write about design.
Things have not been the same around here since I was admitted to the hospital with Theo. The hospital drained the creative life out of me, the birth of baby Theo rocked my world a little, and the recovery was harder than I thought it would be.
Just when I thought I was ready to be a dedicated blogger again, life happend!
Oh how I wish I could be one of those bloggers that has a baby, moves, runs a business, or goes on vacation and doesn’t miss a beat…but apparently that is just not me.
Some people work well under stress. I don’t.
I like to plan, make lists, make lists of lists, have a perfectly organized calendar, and get things done early.
Lately, I have been functioning completely opposite, and I just can’t handle it.
I need my organized self back…and I am SO hoping that I can get there soon.
In the meantime, I’m blaming my dis-organized last minute self on life.
I’ve got to blame it on something right?!
The past few weeks have been a little nutso around the Oakey homestead, here is what we have been up to…
1. Emory graduated pre-school. Hold on, I thought I just gave birth to her?
2. We sold our condo, packed it up, handed over the keys, and moved out of state.
3. We drove 7 hours (should have been 5…thanks screaming Theo) to Boise Idaho and moved all our stuff into a storage unit. We are officially homeless.
4. We stayed one night in Boise, got back in the car and drove 7 more hours to Spokane Washington.
Theo officially wins the award for the worlds worst traveling baby. I spent the majority of the trip crammed in the back (where I definitly did not fit), and my toes were numb most of the time.
5. A couple of hours in the hotel pool, stretching on the bed, a good nights rest and we were back on the road.
6. 5 hours later, we arrived at our destination…my parents cabin in Montana. The trip was a little rough, but we are still married and both children are alive and well, so I will consider it a success.
We will be living here for the majority of June. This place is a little slice of heaven and exactly what we need before Zack starts residency.
7. We have only been here for 6 days and are soaking up every minute. Milkshakes at the town diner are a must.
8. Em has already spent more time with her dad then she has in the last 4 years. Cue the tears, my heart can’t take it.
9. We have stopped doing our hair, only bbq, and eat my favorite summer salad every night. This is standard cabin protocol in my mind.
(spinach, mixed greens, cucumber, craisons, feta, sunflower seeds, strawberries, and poppy seed dressing)
10. We have all loved watching Theo experience new things. His first hot tub, dip in the pool, and rice cereal to name a few. We all adore this little guy.
I wish I could slow this time down. When will we ever get 3 weeks to hang out just the 4 of us again? Probably never.
So please bear with me. I am SO excited to get back to blogging. I’ve got big plans in the works for my our new rental. I can’t wait to get working on it and transform it’s bland standard builder self into something great–and of course while being budget friendly too!
So hang around would ya? I would sure like that.
What a great place to stay for a month in the summer. You have had some very big life-changers going on! Enjoy your time with family 🙂 xo Kristin
Don’t be too hard on yourself sweetie! We all love your blog but we understand that everyone needs a break sometime. Enjoy this special time with your family! It looks like heaven. I love cabins!
Oh, Danielle, don’t be so hard on yourself! You have had SUCH change, and with two small people depending on you. This is HARD stuff. My younger daughter is almost 5 now, and I think we are just recovering from all the change that came with her birth followed, like you, by a cross-country move (2 actually) and lots and lots of change.
Meanwhile, blogging is changing. Feels like lots of bloggers are slowing down and changing their rhythm. So don’t worry: I’m pretty sure your readers will hang out and wait for you to return, when and how you do.
ENJOY this time with your family!
We’ll all still be here when you get your creative juices back.
Your parents place looks phenomenal. Wishing you the best summer ever. It’s been my dream to visit Montana, a horse ranch vacation in Montana 😉
I guarantee you’ll never regret taking time to spend with your little ones, enjoy every minute and we’ll all be here to see your awesome design when you’re ready! 🙂
I can relate so much to how you are feeling! Having 2 kids and beyond really tests your ability to stay organized. I spend so many nights thinking of all I didn’t get done and I have to really try not to beat myself up. This little retreat is exactly what you need. Clear your mind, don’t make a list or do if it helps, and just enjoy this precious time. No one is going a place!
You sweet girl have had one hell of a year.. you need to see yourself as we all do.. a ROCKSTAR. I have so many things to say after reading your post but one thing stands out.. when Calleigh was a baby she too was a terrible car baby. One trip back and forth to Red Deer I was certain Kevin was going to stop the car and leave us both on the side of the road. I really couldn’t have blamed him if he did ha ha. You better believe we will all still be here when you get back..enjoy every second of your time together..and remember, rockstar mom + wife. Rockstar. xoxo S
Oh, I hear ya! I had my second three months ago and just when I thought I was figuring out things my whole world came crashing down! It’s so difficult to be organized and stay on top of deadlines. What use to be an hour long project now takes at least 3 to 5 business days. Hang in there! And if you find something that works please share. Until I get life back to some version of normal I’ll just eat my emotions 🙂
Love the reality of your post! Don’t worry, what youre doing now is WAYYY more important. This is just for fun, and your family and your soul needs to hunker down right now, so we’ll all be here, and can’t wait to support you in your new venture!

That cabin looks dreamy, I’ve been loving all your photos of it on IG. Enjoy these weeks, you’re right, you will probably never have a chance like this again! How fantastic and special for all of you. Sorry to hear Theo is not a better traveler though, that is a major bummer. I give you a ton of credit for being able to post at all with everything you’ve had going on. I, and I’m sure practically all of your other readers, will still be here whenever you come back 🙂 xo
I love your blog and can relate to what you are going through on some level. While I’m not a full-time blogger(I get to it when I have the time) my world has recently been rocked with a new baby(first time mama). I keep saying, I don’t know how people do this with another child under their feet in addition to a newborn! So, I’d say you are doing well and blogging will come when the time is right 🙂 Best wishes to you and your family, look forward to reading when you have the energy to blog!
How wonderful to get to spend so much time together as a family! Soak it all in. Enjoy these next few weeks and I’ll be reading along when life gets back into a new routine.
I love your blog! It’s simple, lovely and realistic! I’m also glad to hear you are normal. I always feel inadequate when I read those blogs where they’re whipping out diy posts the day after having a baby. Seriously, how do they do it?!
Enjoy your trip! I’ll still be following your blog, even if you rarely post.
I have just come across your lovely blog. As an Aussie I have visited Boise twice, love the city and the amazing scenery in the area. Enjoy family time in your parents cabin.
Of course we’ll stick around! I don’t know anyone who could handle all that stress AND keep up blogging! I know you will make your next place amazing! Looking forward to seeing the transformation. Enjoy this family time. 🙂
Enjoy every minute of your time together! I love your blog!

You have such a cute family!
We love you! Of course we will be here eagerly awaiting your return!
I hear ya, sister! I dunno how some other women do it (and kudos to them!) but having a baby totally turns my world upside down and shakes it. I’m glad you were able to re-charge a bit with your family : ]
Take the time, you guys need it! So excited to see you’re in MT (I live in Great Falls 🙂 enjoy your June under the Big Sky!!
your parents place looks so beautiful and the perfect spot for you and your family to stay for a little bit! 🙂 don’t worry about the blog, we will be here when you will be back! enjoy your time with your family!
Everyone needs to recoup and relax. You guys have certainly deserved it! Little ones are precious and it really does go by sooo fast!
Sometimes blogging (or any kind of work) needs to take a back seat to enjoying your family life. Enjoy every moment of it. The internet and your blog readers will still be around when you find the time and motivation to blog more regularly.
I hear ya! Blogging for me has not been the same since Jane was born. Something about having a second kid just makes being a “mom” so much more enticing. Just take things at your own pace and don’t worry about anything else!
