One Quick Thought!

I am alive!
The worlds worst sickness hit our home but we survived.
Yesterday, I started feeling much better and I spent the day disinfecting out home. Goodbye germs.
And I am SO excited that I can finally sit at the computer again without getting dizzy or having a coughing attack. Yahoo!
My clients are hating me right now, and my email is flooded. If I owe you an email, I promise it is coming.
I came across this image on Pinterest yesterday and I thought it was too good to not share.
This diagram is the perfect demonstration on how drapery should be hung.

Can you believe those windows are the same size?
The power of properly hung drapery, it really is amazing.
Here are my basic drapery tips:
1. 84″ length drapery almost never works. (why do they sell them that length?!)
2. Make sure your drapery touches the floor.
3. Always hang your drapery at least 6″ above your window.
4. Hang your rod wide enough so that the drapery can stack beside the window.
Pretty easy and makes such a difference!
p.s. my Gallery Wall prints arrived this week, I am in love!

Great illustration!! Recently installed curtains high and wide, just like the illustration, and it’s unbelievable how MUCH BIGGER our window looks in our bedroom!

Glad you’re feeling better. Sick is no fun.

So where do I find affordable long curtains? Target has up to 96″ and I know Ikea has some but where else? It makes such a big difference!

That is a great question! If only all stores sold them 96″. I love Ikea because you get to customize the length. Most of the time, I recommend just making your own. If you find an affordable fabric, it can be fairly inexpensive and quite easy to sew a couple panels.

So, the window that you show, probably requires 2 panels per side, so they are full enough when closed?

Hi, I am wondering about making my own drapes. I already have blinds that are hung on the archs. Would it still look OK to hang the drapes high?

I am glad you are feeling better! I just hung curtains in my guest bedroom and wished I could have hung them 6″ above the window, but they are handmade and vintage. It does make such a great impact when you hang them high!

Sometimes I see pics (and of course, I didn’t pin them so I can’t reference now, doh) with really cute window length curtains – I mean, ones that skirt the bottom frame of the window. Can that be done? Is there anyway to play with shorter length to have it look intentional and not just like you don’t know what you’re doing? (I don’t know what I’m doing, for the record. 😉

And what about when – as in my house – I have windows smooshed up against all 4 corners of the room (why oh why!). No way to get them wide on more than one side!
