Last week as I was blog surfing, I came across this familiar DIY art project on Always Swell.
I love they way her shell art turned out.

I am actually dying to see the rest of her home, all that white gets me excited.

Anyways, her shell art reminded me of a similar DIY project I did in a clients room this year.
I don’t think I have shared the details with you before.
All I did was purchase two Ikea frames, blue card stock, and starfish from Hobby lobby.
Then I glued the starfish to the cardstock.
Once the starfish was glued onto cardstock, I glued the cardstock to the wood back that comes with the frame.
It was super easy and I love how it looks.
Here is the cost breakdown:
Ikea frame: $20.00
Cardstock: $.50
Starfish: $3.00
Total: $23.50
Not bad for “custom” art!
Have you ever tried something similar?

I love the look of these shadow boxes. I’m making one for Audrey’s room with the Ikea frame and these little shells we always find at our lake house. I was going to use burlap… but a punch of card stock colour might work better for her room!

I have! I bought a small beadboard frame from Goodwill and glued a sand dollar right on top of the glass. I love it! Simple, lovely artwork. Yep!

Love it. I am definitely going to have to do some of these for a project I have right now! I did something along these same lines for my girls room except I used fabric as the background and then put some flat wooden birds that I found in the garden section (they were plant sticks) over the top to give it dimension. Someday maybe a picture of them will be on my blog:)

I actually saw your work in House of Fifty and did something similar with the smaller ikea frames. Here it is if you want to check it out.

So cute! I love IKEA shadow box frames for projects – I haven’t done shell art but I have framed some vintage milk bottle tags and potato bag tags just for some quirky art. 🙂

Very cute – just the thing for the bare walls on my poolside cabana. Ok, that sounds swish – really its a basic shed but a girl can dream 🙂

I made some shell frames a few months ago after being inspired by your blog! I used black frames from Michaels and sand dollars I picked from the beach on Vancouver island.

I was searching refinishing ideas on Pinterest and this one caught my eye. I went to read it and saw your pic to side. I said to myself, wow! She looks so much like Emily! lol No wonder! It’s because it IS Emily! I’m such a dork!! 😉
Thanks for the helpful tip. I’ve been wanting to refinish some furniture but I hate sanding! Can’t wait to try this! 🙂
