Where do you find inspiration?

Last week while Emory was at preschool (l.o.v.e preschool!) I headed to the mall.
As soon as I walked into Gap, I noticed this gallery wall…
I thought it was such a great example of a unique gallery wall.
I would love to do something like this in a stairwell.
I always check out the decor in retail stores, it usually is a great place to get inspiration.
Do you ever find inspiration at the mall?

    Yes indeed, pre-school is wonderful!

One of the best things about being a visual person is that inspiration is just about everywhere! I agree that the mall is wonderful. People watching… seeing how others put together color combinations and textures; the brick walkway with fountains and benches and a spot of color; how a restaurant has tables arranged. Then of course the food markets: esp. the smaller ones. We have something called “Fresh Market” (I think there about 5 of them in the South) and they do a fabulous visual job. Whoever does all their displays: from the cheese counter to the front window, is a pro!
But the best part is that you just never know where and when that next bit of inspiration will come from!

Love the gallery wall! I’m working on something similar for my entryway. I get inspired from traveling….seeing new faces and new places. When I return home I’m always ready to get back to work designing something!

I am always amazed at the displays and visuals at Anthropology. They are by far the most amazing at creating an atmosphere in there! The visuals department is just brilliant.

But I also have always loved the aesthetic at the Gap. Simple, basic, pared down. And they have certainly outdone themselves with that display.

Enjoy those preschool mornings to yourself!

Great gallery wall! I grew up in Las Vegas, and while so much of what goes on there is over the top, there is also oodles of inspiration to be found wherever you go. I love that my parents are still there and we can go visit often. I always come home having seen something new, innovative or swoon worthy.

Retail stores and tv shows – I recently decided on a finish for our new solid pine interior doors while watching an episode of Treme (the plan is to stain them dark, which looks awesome against white trim). Oh, and restaurants too. There’s a great restaurant in Halifax with the most amazing gallery walls!

Dear Danniele, I have once bought two mirrors and one trumpet from a clothing store. They don’t sell those items there, but it was decorating the shop window. So I loved the mirrors and asked if I could by them, they said they would sell them in the end of the season, when the change the decoration… I have them now in my bedroom!!! You can see one of them here: http://perfect-home.blogspot.com/2011/09/bedroom-makeover-almost-done.html

Today I have found inspiration when I was jogging… seeing the ocean is always inspiring.

Thank you so much for your great inspirations. I follow your blog and love your ideas. Maybe you can see mine and love them also! 😉

Amazing where you can find inspiration! Love that wall. I am thinking something like that would be perfect for my family room!

Recently we stayed at the Sheraton Delfina in Santa Monica where I loved their decor. I snapped photos but have yet to share on my blog – reminds me that I should get on that!

So cool! I think about this a lot as inspiration really is everywhere. This time of year there is a ton of inspiration in nature and how all of the leaves are turning, and sunsets. I could go on and on 🙂 I love the MAC store at the mall!

Great pic from The Gap. I love this gallery wall. I definitely have to agree that when it comes to great inspiring merchants Anthropology does it best! But I think most creative types can be inspired by nearly anything. Lately blogs are truly the best source of fresh new ideas.

I am often inspired by blogs and pinterest. I can’t say that I’ve looked for inspiration at the mall, I’ll have to keep my eyes open next time I go!
