Let’s Talk: Comments

A couple weeks ago while l was leaving a comment on a blog, I noticed the comment above mine mentioned that she thought commenting was only for other bloggers.
This is definitely not the case, bloggers LOVE comments from everyone.
Blogging can be really hard.
Posting everyday can be challenging, but comments make it worth it.
So if you hang around these parts, and you see something you like, leave a comment.
I would love to hear from you 🙂
Also, leaving a comment is a great way to start a discussion with the blogger.
We are a chatty bunch and we love to respond to comments.
This can be easily done if you change your settings to allow us to reply to your comments.
Every time you leave a comment, I get an e-mail.
If your settings are right, I can hit reply to the email and contact you directly.
Everyday I get responses from the comments I leave, and it gives me warm fuzzes.
So here is how it is done:
Go to your profile.
Click edit profile
Then make sure you click the “show my email” box.

Then enter your email address.
You can enter any email address, this won’t change your login email.
The email you enter is the one that will be used to reply back to your comments.

And that is it!
You have now changed your settings from no-reply to reply!
And you just made it a million times easier for me 🙂
If you don’t have a blog profile, please still leave comments!
I heart them.

Great post Danielle! This is so true – I love hearing from everyone, but it does seem that a majority of comments I get are from bloggers. Would love to hear more from the silent readers! 🙂

    Hi Danielle-
I would be one of those silent readers. I was also one of those commenters that said I thought bloggers preferred hearing from other bloggers. I know non-bloggers can comment. It just sometimes feels like the design blogging community is a bit of an exclusive club, and one must have a blog to participate. Thanks for this blog post. It is a great reminder. Loving your blue desk!! I am not a do it yourself kind of girl, but im trying to work something that shade of blue into my apartment. Love your style!

Thanks for the post Danielle. As a new blogger (and when I say new, I mean I posted my first official post yesterday 🙂 ), I understand how intimidating it can be to leave a comment if you are not a blogger. I have always tried to leave comments when I have felt compelled to do so, but there was that moment of hesitation before hitting the “submit” button. Thanks for welcoming anyone and everyone to your blog. It is nice to know that what you have to say has worth to someone and that they enjoyed reading it, just as much as you enjoyed writing it!

yeay! I kinda wondered about that. I have a blog, but it’s just getting started and of course I have blog-envy and blog-doubt so I worried if I should leave comments. But I did. And I do. I just said Oh well who’s it gonna hurt? Thanks for your wonderful blog. I read every post. 😀

I’m so glad you wrote this. Before I started my own blog I was a lurker for over a year but never left comments. My main reason for not commenting was because I’d read many bloggers comments about how they didn’t like anonymous comments. I hope a lot of those who read your blog will see this and realize that commenting is a form of flattery.

Just changed mine so my email is visible. Thanks for the tip! And PS – you are one of my most favorite bloggers. I read everyday and always find something eye-catching inspiring! Just wanted you to know 🙂

Thank you for this post Danielle! My mother won’t comment on my blog because she thinks it will “encourage weirdos to stalk me”. She just emails me her comments instead!

Comments rock 🙂 I’ve developed new friendships from leaving a nice simple comment! Also… I like reading other peoples comments. Sometimes there will be great tips etc. in the comment area! Thanks for the great reminder 🙂

    Danielle,

I didn’t understand what that feature was on my profile but it’s now updated … thanks so much for that tip!

As a follower of your blog I loved your blue desk so much it influenced my color selection (same) for a Bali Hai bachelor’s chest used in my dining room … which is currently being painted. You are so right, that paint is stinky but magical in how the brush strokes disappear and is replaced by the high beam gloss! Thanks for that tip too! I hope my Bali Hai chest will be complete this weekend and I’ll post my results.

This is so smart because there are SO many people out there that either don’t know how to set-up their account properly or aren’t comfortable enough to comment. I know when I first started blogging I didn’t have my settings set-up properly and then I read this tip on another blog and was so so thankful!!! I also know many people who read my blog and other blogs every day and never leave a comment…I just don’t get it, but I guess some people just think that what they say either won’t be “right” or isn’t important enough, which we all know is not true at all. So thanks for posting this – a good tip for anyone.

Thanks you so much for posting this! It really does make me sad when I don’t have a way to respond to commenters too. Comments from everyone really are the fuel and inspiration to keep going. I was only a lurker long before I had my own blog. Now I feel like I was really missing out on the conversation and community part of reading my favorite blogs.
