Let’s Talk: Missoni on Ebay

I am blown away with what has happened to the Missoni line at Target.
Turns out, all the people spending thousands of dollars yesterday morning are now selling the items on Ebay.
And not for cheap either.
They want hundreds of dollars for each item.
One of the most popular items was this throw.
You can find it on ebay selling for $125 – $225
Target is selling it for $39.99
Oh and if you are willing to pay $80 – $200 of these rain boots then you can have them too.
Target is selling them for $34.99
Crazy.
And I think it is kinda annoying.
Obviously it is working, people are bidding, but I still find it annoying.
Let’s hear your thoughts?

I find this beyond ridiculous. Why would you pay five times what something is worth?

Also, my mom went and bought a ton of stuff for me yesterday (she may have gone a bit crazy), but she talked to the manager of her local Target store (outside of Atlanta) and he said they are prepared for the frenzy. Apparently they’re putting out small amounts of stock at a time and restocking every few days. He said yesterday they had no much stuff in boxes in the back that my mom should come back in the next few days when they put more out. So what’s the rush? They’ll be re-stocking for six weeks.

Gaming the system, and taking advantage of those who didn’t get a chance to get in on the game if you ask me. But, the crazy thing is that people are willing to pay THAT MUCH MORE on Ebay?!! Nuts. I am sure the stores had to plan somewhat for the initial madness, so I bet they held back stock and will most likely receive more shipments. Everyone is out to make money on the deal!

There are many crazy people who are willing to fork top dollar for things that weren’t worth its price. If they can afford to pay that much, they might as well buy some of the original Missoni stuff! Just my thoughts! 🙂

WOW. Are you serious? That’s beyond crazy. The question I guess is…. Is Target going to be restocking the line or are those people having the right idea?

I think it’s crazy dumb! The line isn’t the original, it’s a cheaper version. So why pay the doubled price or more on ebay? Plus, like everyone is saying, they will be re-stocking in the coming weeks. I’d be waiting for them to restock again.

I totally agree! I was mad and somewhat disheartened when I saw ladies filling their baskets with shoes, scarves, etc. and then asking if there was more. Really? I would never pay more than what I could buy it for at the Target store. I hope many of those ebay sellers do not make a profit.

When I was at Target yesterday there was a guy who bought $4,000 worth of stuff in the morning and was going back for round two. I bought way too much yesterday and while I was tempted to sell it I decided to return it so that someone else could enjoy it at Target prices. Hopefully it doesn’t turn up on Ebay

Obviously there is a market for these over priced things! I am NOT a Missoni design fan…and I thought the Liberty of London collection at Target was truly awful…so I won’t be buying anything. It’s all part of our over hyped and very materialistic society.!

wow i find it all pretty crazy and ridiculous. it pretty much defeats the whole purpose of missoni making an affordable line for target. its sad to see how material items are held up so high sometimes…is this stuff really that big of a deal?!

I saw people doing this yesterday. I went after I dropped my kids at school…totally thinking it wouldn’t be crowded,,,boy was I wrong. It was like a feeding frenzy. I wasn’t planning on my anything really just wanted to see the colors in person. One girls was picking up Handfuls of shirts, said she was going to resale them.

I hate that!! So rude. I live in a fairly small town so I figured I would have no problem going this morning to pick up the Missoni flats I wanted. Boy, was I wrong. The shelves were swiped. I refuse to pay higher prices on ebay for the same item that was just in the store. It was frustrating!!!

I noticed the same thing when I was on eBay yesterday – everything is selling for basically 5 times what the retail value is. I was at Target yesterday morning during the whole frenzy to pick up a few things and was just appaulled by the way women (it was mostly women) would just push around their shopping carts (yes, carts) and pull things right off the rack into the cart without regard to what it was. While I can understand some re-sale of items on eBay, it just seems sad that if you really wanted something from the Missoni line, you basically had to be ready and waiting at the Target store in the wee hours of the morning, or else forking over some major dough. Isn’t the reason why designers like Missoni, et al even collaborate with Target is so “normal” people can afford the stuff?

I was the first person in at my local Target and bought everything I thought was cute (mostly home goods and accessories – skipped the clothes). A lot of my friends missed out because they didn’t know they had to be there when the store opened so I have been having fun having them come over to my place and buy what they want from me (at regular price! LOL)

and PS – the stuff is gorgeous in person (most of it high quality) and the best designer collaboration Target has even done! I would have paid 2x retail easily for many of the items inc. the cosmetic cases, knit scarf, towels and throw.

  15. says

Yeah, pretty crummy I think! And not very smart–are people really not willing to wait a few extra days for the Target version of the designer line when it’s restocked. My Target still had plenty of items today that were lovely, I think some areas were hit hard but others not so much. Silliness, really.

  16. says

Totally annoying – it is probably way overpriced anyway at Target – I bought a Missoni mug for $4.99 – those must be selling for $34.99 on ebay!! I mean, how great can the quality be of a quilt that is $35.00?? They were made for about $5.00…;-)

I think that is cool that target does these designer hook up things. but really target? its supposed to be just for fun. its not a boutique or even a unique fun little shop. its a box store just like Walmart. its for convenience and mass produced items. its cheap and not great quality. you will see people all the time wearing the same thing!

Crazytown for sure!! That throw was the only thing I wanted, so I’ve put the call out to all my friends to scour their Targets. Let’s hope Oregonians aren’t quite so into it.
