Emory’s room is featured on Ohdeedoh today.
It has also started quite the discussion on the age appropriateness of the room.
I tend to lean towards bright colors, bold patterns, and whimsical touches in childrens rooms, but I understand that it is not everyones cup of tea.
What about you?
What’s your design style for a kids room?

I agree with you completely!! I think Emory’s room is great… and in the end, if SHE enjoys it than that’s all that matters and really what makes it “appropriate”! 🙂

Boy that site seems to get controversial sometimes doesn’t it?. I am like you where I like bold and bright. Not cutsy. I am almost done with my daughter’s room which I will be posting soon. Last year my daughters birthday party was on that site and it was a very controversial topic on how much is overdone on a party. They never asked if it was okay to even use pictures of my party that had been on HWTM. I do not believe they used the best judgment in using my photos without permission. Emory’s room is fabulous and you and Emory love it and thats all that matters.

I adore this room. I have since the first time you showed it! It’s really an inspiration for all of us trying to design our homes while pinching our pennies!

I think anything goes any more with children’s rooms. I love this room. I’ve been thinking a lot about this topic lately too, but it’s all about point of view and you’ve expressed yours and your daughter’s perfectly!

I actually quit reading AT and all of their sites because the comments were so ridiculous. If Emory likes her room (I know I do!!!!) then the design was a success. I personally love your style! People are too uptight on what they think a kids room “should be”. If the kids love it (and mom and dad can live with it!) thats what counts :). Keep up the good work. Can’t wait to see more projects!

yay for the feature!!! when sloan’s room was on babycenter, everyone was on and on about it not being a room for a little girl. I guess the majority of people want you to hose it down with barbie and cinderella motifs…to each their own???

I think her room is beautiful and it will transition with her as she gets older. I love that it’s feminine without being super girly or princess-y (I may have just made that word up). And if the picture above is any indication, she seems to love it, which is what really matters. Awesome job 🙂

It’s too bad that people have to spend so much time with negative comments, when they don’t have to live in the space. It’s obvious Emery loves it, and that’s all that matters! I happen to think it’s absolutely perfect and beautiful!

I’ve always loved this room. I think a kids room is a great place to play with color and pattern, both of which you have done really well here! I think sometimes people are over exposed to PB kids and can’t get outside of the “kids dept” when decorating a kids room. This room is timeless and it will grow with her which is better for the budget anyway.
