I have been obsessing over finding an oversized piece of art for my house.

When I saw the DIY abstract art tutorial on
It got me thinking…
Maybe I could do that?
My art skills have always lacked a little.
I try hard, but don’t always get the result I hope for.
Now I just need to decide on a style.
I have had this picture saved in my inspiration folder for a while.
I just can’t get this piece of art out of my head.
It is colorful, modern, and crisp. Love it.
I wonder if could I DIY that one?
Last week I found this DIY paint chip tutorial on Two Girls Being Crafty.

I know I could do that one!
Have you ever attempted a large DIY art piece?
Don’t forget to enter my Online Room Design Giveaway, it ends today!
Do it. It’s SO fun to paint and you could totally create your own piece of art. It’s also thrilling to have YOUR work hanging in your abode… can’t wait to see if you take the plunge!

I attempted painting recently, and it turned out better than I thought! I had a huge piece of art that I had grown to hate, but couldn’t stand just throwing the canvas and frame away. (My husband had an affinity for Asian decor when we first got married…enough said.)I mixed oil paints in a variety of blues and greens and tried to make the shapes as organic looking as possible. Heres a link to a picture:

I’ve always loved the art in the second pic, but I neeeeed to see it whole to figure out how to diy it! I don’t understand how the color changes… it isn’t clear from this shot. If anyone has a full shot of this art, please share! 🙂
and that’s an awesome paint chip art… i did consider diying that piece of art with paint, but this is genius.
I’ve been tossing the same idea around… read the same tutorial… You should go for it!
I have and I am really happy with the way it turned out. No doubt, you can do any of these, your super talented anyway:)
I would love to have your vote for a chair design contest I entered. Details are here: http://plainfancyliving.blogspot.com/2011/08/i-need-your-vote.html
I would be really grateful for your vote.
That’s so funny, I did a post on diy art today as well. Some of it is fairly crafty, though, as I was giving a variety of ideas. But, I do have some of these pinned! You can definitely do any of these!
Yes I have and it inspired my daughter to open up her own Etsy shop (she is 15) she has sold 2 paintings in her first two weeks!
Check out her abstract art:http://www.etsy.com/shop/BlueandBeyond?ref=ss_profile
I did, and it went pretty well. Here’s a link to my project (i used tape on canvas):

I’ve been planning to try a little DIY artwork too. It is rather daunting to stare at that blank white canvass. Hopefully some inspiration and bravery will hit us both at some point! Good luck to you.
On a not DIY-ing note, I have an amazingly talented friend who’s a grad student in VA, who auctions off his work periodically via Facebook. Bids start at only $20; I ended up getting one large and one HUGE piece for only $140 a couple years ago.
I blogged a little about him today. He’s definitely worth checking out!
