Although it may seem trendy, I still love gallery walls.
Especially this one in Victoria’s of sfgirlbybay home office.
Isn’t it clever how she incorporated her iMac as a piece of art?
Besides arranging the frames, one of the most intimidating parts of creating a successful gallery wall is selecting the right art.
When starting a gallery wall, I typically like to find an inspiration piece to help direct me.
Here is how my process typically works…
1. Find an inspiration piece
This is my favorite print to date, and is the perfect inspiration piece to create a gallery wall from.
I love the ikat inspired pattern and the color scheme.
2. Select art by pulling colors from the inspiration piece
I immediately wanted to pull green from the inspiration piece.
This kelly green bike worked perfectly.
3. Include pieces that personally interest you
I have an odd obsession with row-homes.
They are charming and adorable, I dream of living in one.
This row-home illustration was just what I needed.
I also still have a thing for faux taxidermy and this gray one was just right.
Since pink is on my mind lately, I wouldn’t mind owning this monogramed chevron print.
I, of course, would select an O.
4. Let your wall tell a story
I love to include maps of places I have traveled or lived.
I love the graphic nature of this map. I would select Massachusetts, to remind me of our fantastic summer spent on the cape.
Inspiring or meaningful quotes are also the perfect addition to any gallery wall.
This one “time doesn’t wait” would be perfect above my work computer!
Here is a sample of what my gallery wall looks like so far.
It is not to scale, so a few adjustments would be necessary, but I like where it is heading.
Best part, all of these prints are very affordable and look great in inexpensive Ikea frames!
What is your favorite print?
Please share!
I will always love them too. I love how you gave steps on how to create one and yours is lovely- the inspiration print is one of my favourites too.
Gallery walls may be trendy but I think it is a trend that will stick around. I love the steps you outline for people trying to create one.
I love a good gallery wall, so classic! Your tips are great, thanks for sharing.
Love this!! Adore all the prints you chose!
Gallery walls look so neat to me, but they’re a little difficult for me to put together because I always get a little ‘ocdish’ and end up nixing the project. Hopefully these tips will help! Great post 😀
Well you sure made that look easy Danielle. Come do mine now please 🙂
very fun finds and yes victoria’s office is awesome
I love gallery walls! I think they’re such a fun way to collect small pieces of art. Incorporating the Mac is genius! 🙂
Love Victoria’s! And yours seems to be shaping up quite nicely – adorbs! Can’t wait to see. xo
Love this post & the tips for creating a gallery wall! It can definitely be tricky. You can create a gallery that is personal without having to include every school picture since kindergarten! I love the idea of adding meaningful touches like quotes, maps, and your own art. Thanks for sharing!!
I love that gallery you put together.
I had to look twice to notice the computer! Clever!
I went to put together a gallery wall this past weekend and realized my problem was the art. This definitely helped! Thanks!
I love this post so much.
I’ve been struggling with my gallery wall for months now. Not only choosing the right art and the right sizes, but also the frames. I’m all over the place! I love ornate frames, but I really like your set-up with simple frames.
ps- row homes are overrated! They never get enough sunlight. Or maybe I’m just a disgruntled city dweller 😉
I completely agree- gallery walls are truly fabulous. And I think you’ve picked some good art to boot! I need to spend some time on Etsy… it’s been awhile! : ) Did you see the gallery walls that Young House Love did in their hallway? One of my favorites, to date. All white frames, tons of drama, great art.
I love gallery walls, when done right they are so classic and interesting.

Thanks so much for including my prints in this post! The gallery wall you laid out is beautiful!
Oh, what a great selection. I actually added the Row House print to my Etsy favs last week. So pretty. I wanted to share my bird, tree and feather gallery wall: http://ourhumbleabowed.wordpress.com/2011/04/12/birds-and-a-feather/ Every piece was from Etsy or something I made. The frames were either cheapos from IKEA, Target or painted thrift store finds.
Danielle, Thank you so much for the mention…Im only sorry I didn’t read this post earlier…would you believe that I have only just discovered the Traffic Source stats on Etsy…lol…very slow I know.
Once again Thank you.
