Thats right people, I sewed a pillow…with piping…and a zipper!
Feel free to call me Martha.
Here it is in all its glory.
Not only was this sewing experience a complete success, it was also a great deal!
I purchased the piping from Jo-Anns for $1.79, the fabric pieces were samples on clearance for $2.00 each, and I already had the zipper.
That makes the pillow case a whoppin $4.79.
Check out that piping…
I love having different fabrics on each side, just incase I feel crazy and want to switch it up mid-day.
Don’t put it past me, I have been known to do crazy things like that.
And a close-up of the zipper, yep I actually did it!
I have also been busy working on my pillows from my fabric scraps.
Recognize the chevron print?
It got dressed up with some spicy yellow piping as well.
I still need to refine my piping skills, you may notice it overlapping on the floral pillow, 3rd time’s a charm, right?
Sewing a pillow with piping and a zipper may not seem like a big deal to all you sewing gurus, but it was a big accomplishment for me!
I can’t wait to make more.
Good job! I LOVE the piping- it really makes a HUGE difference! I think I will call you “Martha” 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

It is very big deal to me! I’m impressed. Maybe I should face my fears and try piping and zippers too.
Impressed with you all over again. I wish I could sew pillows myself. Gorgeous fabric too!!
So where is the how to? I am about to attempt piping for the first time. I did not even consider a zipper! Wow!
This looks fabulous Danielle! I hope you don’t mind, as the previous poster asked, here is a link to a tutorial I did making a pillow with piping and a zipper.

Very professional! I think this is a great success! I’ve been wanting to do this for a while but something about piping and zippers seems so intimidating, you’ve inspired me to try 🙂
They look great. I love piping on pillows, but totally scared to tackle it myself. Dropping off your fabric at the post office today.

C
You did GOOD! Was the zipper hard? Ok, you need to share your secrets for finding awesome stuff for SO cheap:) You seriously always rock it on a budget!
Great job, Martha! I made some basic, basic pillows and I was proud of myself. You put my little pillows to shame, a zipper!
Bravo…I am still looking for fabric to undertake the same project! Hopefully I will have success to post!
It’s a big deal for me! I’m not that handy at sewing yet! You did an amazing job!! I love the different fabrics on each side and the yellow piping you added to your chevron pillow. Looks great!

Awesome job! Love the choice of fabrics too.
You now have an alias…Danielle “Martha” Oakey…(c: Those look amazing!!! I’m still trying to pluck up the courage to actually take my sewing maching out of it’s case…let alone actually *sew* something with it! Love.
Congratulations!!! That is awesome. My sewing machine has been sitting, collecting dust for longer than I care to think about. The piping is great, but what really freaks me out is the zipper. You a great job.
