thrifty tuesdays: stripes and a little help!

i love stripes.
i am crazy about striped walls.
i am thinking about painting black & white stripes in my daughter’s room.
i have decided on horizontal stripes, but black & white?
now this is where you come in….
i am always the one giving design advice.
this time i want to hear your opinion, all of you:)
emory’s room has a slanted wall which makes hanging art impossible.
although i love this architectural feature, it can be very frustrating to decorate!
here is the wall.
so far i have done nothing with it.
the right side (not showing) looks very empty, it needs something!
here are my thoughts:
1. i love stripes
2. i love black & white
3. i love chalkboard paint
the hardest decisions, what size? what color?
this bathroom is fabulous but i think the stripes are a little narrow.

i love the width of the stripes on the drapery.
still to narrow?

wow, i adore this living room.
the stripes make me so excited to get painting.
maybe a little wider?

these striped drapery have the perfect width.

here is the wall adjacent to the “striped wall.”
now the big question, stripes or no stripes?
black & white?
i can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

I think that the black and white stripes would look good as a statement wall or curtains. Might be a little too much for all the walls, especially if the room is small.

I did 12″ stripes in Eisley’s room of alternating light pink and dark pink. With a laser level and some frog tape it went super fast (8′ high ceilings don’t take too long to paint).
I love the idea of chalkboard paint, and the cool thing about it is that they can tint it for you. And looking at the rest of your house and her room, what about a navy blue instead of black? It wouldn’t be QUITE so stark, but would still have a lot of contrast. Can’t wait to see it! good luck!

Wow! I say just go for it!! I’m about to take the plunge in my powder room! The striped drapes in the second inspirational image are the perfect width. This would be incredibly cool and your daughter will probably love them until she is in her teens! They are so Vogue!
    Good luck 😉

I would definitely say, go for the black and white stripes! I really like the wider stripes (like in the last 2 inspiration photos), as opposed to the skinnier stripes…and I think wider is a lot less work! I think it will really just give Emory’s already adorable bedroom some “oomph!”

Yes go for the white and black stripes!!! I like the wide version that were on drapes with the “perfect width”. The light blue drapes and globe will look fantastic with it. And the black and white animal pictures and frames on the other wall will tie it all in. Can’t wait to see it!!!

Definate yes to the stripes and I love the idea of black and white stripes. I like the wider width in the last curtains you showed! That will look fabulous. I have been wanting to stripes for my next nursery.

I love me some stripes! I’ve done them two ways….equal spacing in my guest bath….and random spacing and width in my son’s room. I think the random is more youthful.

Also, I wouldn’t use chalkboard paint for a stripe…I think you’re asking for trouble to open only parts of a wall up for coloring!

Go for it! But I agree, the stripes need to be wide. I think too narrow could look busy.

I do agree with Cassie though. If the stripes are all that is chalkboard paint, you could run into the issue of chalk getting on the non chalkboard paint areas.

Love the idea! Definitely think the wider stripe will be great! Also, you could do one color (either black or white) in a satin and one in a matte so you get a cool sheen effect to the walls (:

Oooh I love stripes!! Wish I had seen this sooner so I could have weighed in… but I saw in your next post that you already painted! But everything you do is fabulous, so I am sure it is no exception. Can’t wait to see!!
