Yes, I agree…I got rid of old towels yesterday — I put them in a bin for an animal shelter. I also cleaned out my desk area last weekend – had a whole garbage bag filled with paper! Amazing it all came out of a small area!
Me too- my living room looks like a bomb hit it and if I didn’t feel so under the weather from the never ending flu in my house, I’d be taking it down-love the holidays but it’s exhausting and messy!!!
I love decorating my house for Christmas, but also love taking it down. I am totally a minimalist. I usually wait until January 1st, although my husband would love everything up until Jan. 6th (the 3 kings)
I am always a bit sad . .. for like a day . . and then when it all comes down it’s so freeing and feels so open! Love that. BTW . . I just made my hubby look at the pictures of your mom’s house yesterday. Dream house!!!
I leave all my stuff up for at least two weeks and then my snowmen stay up all winter long. However, I am de-cluttering in a different way…right now taking a break from the walk-in closet.
That room really looks like you, well your style, not necessarily you. I do the same thing. I feel like I have to make room for the new. I also live in a smaller home, so I have to keep pretty organized.
Agree – I can never wait to put the Christmas decorations up each year. They go up straight after the Halloween ones come down on November 1. But as soon as Boxing Day is over, then I am twitching to get the Christmas decorations down to set a new mood for a fresh new year. This room is lovely and summery.

I’m the same way! After Christmas, I feel the need to simplify and de-clutter. It just feels fresh and is a nice start to the new year!
