pelmet box opinions welcome

i made our living room pelmet box last year.
total cost: $22.00

it was really easy.
i followed this tutorial from little green notebook.
the pelmet boxes in her girls bedroom look amazing!
perfection, don’t you think?

when we moved into our 900 sq. ft condo 1 year ago, i knew our deck door was a problem.
i wanted our drapery to hang floor to ceiling but the vertical blinds caused a HUGE eye sore.
that bar, yuck!
i wanted to remove the blinds altogether but we use them.
so for now, i need to work with them!

i changed my curtains a couple months ago.
now i think it’s time to recover my pelmet box.
i am thinking a dark solid with light trim.

what would you do?
would you change it?

I like your idea of switching it up with a solid. All your patterns work well together but sometimes you can have too much of a good thing. I’m no designer but from my art classes I learned sometimes the eye needs a place to rest. So go for the solid!!

Well, I hear ya girlfriend, those original blinds are hideous! I LOVE your yellow and white pelmet – but maybe for a bit of change, why not make pelmets for the winter in the darker color – and then, in the summer, you can put the yellow and white back. That way, you can enjoy both year round!

I’m in a blue and white phase of my life (perhaps because it’s summer time in Australia) – I think a solid the same color as the stripes in the curtains with a beautiful contrasting trim would be nice…It looks really nice. I agree about the rod. It would have driven me mad too.

I have used that tutorial before – and it turned out so great – and SO easy! I love your current pelmet box, but given your new curtains, I can understand why you are thinking it might be time for a change.

What a drastic change curtains and a pelmet box can do for those patio/deck doors! This is probably going to be my next project… oh, it will make my apt look and feel more home-y! My only problem is, the wall where the patio door is– it’s the “accent” wall and is painted Sherwin William’s “wheat penny.” I am not good with color coordinating– so what colors/fabrics would you suggest for the curtains and pelmet box? I have a buttery yellow sofa on an adjacent, white wall.
