my fireplace is empty, it is waiting for the perfect accessory.
this deer head from z gallerie is on my christmas list.
the small one is $49.95 and the large on is $199.95
i think it would be perfect.

just in case it doesn’t arrive on christmas morning, i have been planning a diy project.
i found these deer antlers on ksl for $10.00.
i could easily mount these antlers on a piece of plywood and create a look like this.

or maybe even add a paper mache head.
what do you think?
buy or diy?
I say DIY. My sister had some that she put on a plaque like you pictured, and it looks great. You can see it here (kind of small), but you can get the idea. http://jandjhome.blogspot.com/search/label/Travel. I’d love to see what you come up with. Paper Mache is not too bad to work with. I did some birds and they came out OK.
DIY!!! I like it WAY better on the plaque rather than the deer head — for real!
DIY for sure. The antlers would look so cool by thimselves.
LOVE both ideas. I also saw this at Kohls, same idea, but less $!! http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/furnitureandhomedecor/christmas/decorativeaccents/PRD~661162/Deer+Head+Decor.jsp
DIY! We have a collection of antlers becuase my husband used to work with deer at the USDA labs…I never thought to get them out for the holidays! Great idea!
I am the odd one out I guess, but I like the one from Z Gallery.
DIY! If I had a money tree and wasn’t so busy I would DIY everyday! If you have the time, do it – super fun idea!
Since it’s so inexpensive to DIY, go for it. That way, if you don’t like it you’re not out too much money and you can always buy the ZG one if you still have to have it!
DIY…for sure and then show us all how you did it! Can’t wait! I have a very good friend who owns a large cabin in WV and he is always bring back bones, horns, etc. for my son. In fact I have the whole tail bone of a deer in my garage just waiting for us to do something with it. Maybe I’ll attach all of the bones and spray paint it gold for above my fireplace, which is empty as well.
Good luck!!
I think you should totally go for the diy!! I can’t wait to see how it turns out!
Luvs!
For some reason the Z gallerie version has a modern feel to me that I think really adds impact to a space. I would wait to see if Santa brings it and if not, do the DIY version! M.

Ok, first, I posted last week about deer heads -I have been looking for the perfect specimen…I love the ZGallerie deer, but the DIY would be fun too. How about doing both? Maybe put both above the fireplace or find another spot for the DIY?? :))
I’m afraid I’m not much of a DIY girl – so it’s buy for me – but I do so admire those who can!
