Can’t get it out of my head…

Thanks so much for your comments yesterday.
You guys are too sweet 🙂
Now let’s get back to design…
Ever since I saw this Ikea Rast hack, I can’t get it out of my head.
I know we have all seen a million Rast hacks, but these red Dorothy Draper inspired side tables speak to me.
I think I might have to re-visit my Ikea Rast Hacks.

I love them but I wouldn’t mind a change.

Are you loving these too?
I think she did such an amazing job!
Are you convinced yet?
If not, Lisa from Trapped in North Jersey just completed these beauties for her bedroom.
The blue and gold combo is to die for.

Well actually her whole bedroom is.
You rock Lisa.
I can’t wait to get started!

Online Living Room Design

I just completed the design for the winner of my online room design giveaway.
She was so much fun to work with and the perfect person to win.
She wanted her living room to be colorful, inviting, comfortable, and family friendly.
Here is a before picture of the living room:

The layout of the furniture was the first problem I noticed.
Since this room is used mainly to visit with family and play games, I wanted to create a layout that allows for easy conversation.
The next step was selecting the drapery.
Since her accent colors are pinks, greens, and yellows, a dark blue was the perfect fit.
The bold chevron print will draw attention to the windows and add some spice to the space.
I think this floral chair from Pier 1 Imports was made for this room.
The print is stunning and the colors are spot on.

Storage was an issue in this room.
isn’t it always?
I was inspired by this Ikea expedit bookshelf hack and knew it would be perfect in the space.
The shelving will solve the storage issue and also provide a place to display some personal decorative items. Her existing piece of wall art will hang above it with silhouettes of her family flanking each side.
A new neutral rug and some colorful graphic pillows will complete this room.

I can’t wait to see it come together!

just stencil it.

this is one of the best diy projects i have ever seen.
what an adorable rug for such a fantastic price.

natalie took a simple ikea rug and transformed it into a piece of art.
all that was required:
*ikea rug
*1 piece of card stock to make stencil
*washable white fabric paint
*stippling brush

you can get the rug for $29.99 at ikea.

it also comes in white, grey, and red.
i can think of SO many places i could put this rug.
i just love it.

design sponge: before & after

i make a daily stop at design sponge.
i always take a peak at the before and after section.
i love seeing not so pretty things transform into something beautiful.
this little hutch is something you would see on craigslist or a thrift store.

the transformation is stunning.
one of my favorite parts, the candlesticks with bowls and plates on top. what a creative way to make serving platters for a party!

this chair is looking a little worn.

a fresh coat of paint and an old sack gives it a completely renewed look!
we all have an old desk laying around.

a bench, genius.

this chair looks helpless

a little tlc and time, it looks brand new

old wood crates, what to do with them?

a headboard of course, why didn’t i think of that?

a plain and boring dresser, most people would think to donate it and buy a new one.

don’t waste the money, this new dresser is stunning.
i wouldn’t mind taking it home with me.

secretaries desk, do we still use these?

i would if mine looked like this.
remove the door and a fresh coat of paint, lovely.

this desk has great lines, kinda mid-century modern feeling.

wow.

i already like this dresser, but maybe a little plain.

not anymore, this is now a statement piece.

doesn’t this make you want to do a diy project?
if you do, send them my way.
i would love to see them!
